Couple weeks back I made a trip down to El Paso Texas to shoot the band Altarmotive. Armed with only battery power flashes I set out and spent the whole day with them at different locations. The plan was try to get as many different type of shots as we could. The day flew by. In the end, the last shot of the day was the one choosen to be used on the cover.

Altarmotive – Afterglow
December 2, 2010Natural Backlight
November 19, 2010While in El Paso shooting a band I had the opportunity to go to some new locations. One of them was this really cool loft that had a huge window. Trying to come up with new ideas I decided I would try to use the window as a huge backlight.
Dual Sunpak 120J’s Desktop Wallpaper
October 28, 2010Recently I aquired a second Sunpak 120J. Some of you might be asking yourself, “what is this retro looking thingamabob?!”. The 120J is a parabolic flash that is a discontinued flash made by Sunpak. There are several advantages of this flash compared to your normal speedlight.
iphone camera apps + Photoshop
September 16, 2010Have you ever thought it would be great if could use some of those cool effects or textures from your iphone camera apps and apply them to your photos in photoshop? Huzzah!!! I will show you how. (I have also included a lighting diagram for this shot as well)
Level 4 – Adventurer
September 1, 2010Another shot from my trip to Linda Vista Hospital a couple months back. This was an “on the spot” idea and the whole setup probably took about 5-10 minutes. Kelly from work was kind enough to step in as the “Adventurer”. I really enjoy doing the themed shots like this and I really need to make it a point to try them more often.
From Darkness to the Light
August 16, 2010This shot was taken a while back when I went out to the Linda Vista Hospital Shoot that Brooke Shaden arranged. The shot was actually the only planned shot I had in mind when I went there that day. I saw this morgue in pictures and I came up with this idea. I wanted to do it so it looked more surreal than creepy (although it might still be creepy to some).
Kelly – Washed-out
August 6, 2010
I get asked a lot how I get that light, washed-out look on some of my photos. It is a simple one step process (ok maybe 2 steps). It’s not always how easy or hard the technique is, but it is knowing when to apply them.
Where the Wild Things Smoke
August 2, 2010A while back while shooting at Linda Vista Hospital I was able to hook up with with photographer Lauren Randolph. I had a random idea for a shot and oddly enough she was into it too. Her expressions totally made these shots.
Get Made / Get Whacked
July 12, 2010Last week I was asked to shoot photos for possible posters for the upcoming Las Vegas Mob Experience. The idea was to have an image of a guy who is “Made” and then in an alternate poster he is being “Whacked”. My first concern was the second shot, I have to have a person behind the subject emerging from the shadows. How would I do this and not make it look cheesy.

July 6, 2010Welcome to the Blog! It’s been a long time coming. The main focus of this blog will be for information and resources rather than my own photography. I will try to share as much as I can. I’m not claiming I know what I’m doing, but if you like what I do, then you may take away something from this blog.
In the past I have always listed strobist info. Now via this blog I will try to supply more detailed lighting information with the occasional setup shot.
