September 22, 2010

Every week I get people asking me how I do my faux tilt-shift photos. So for those of you who’s google are broke, I’ve went ahead and did a step-by-step.

iphone camera apps + Photoshop

September 16, 2010

Have you ever thought it would be great if could use some of those cool effects or textures from your iphone camera apps and apply them to your photos in photoshop? Huzzah!!! I will show you how. (I have also included a lighting diagram for this shot as well)

Level 4 – Adventurer

September 1, 2010

Another shot from my trip to Linda Vista Hospital a couple months back. This was an “on the spot” idea and the whole setup probably took about 5-10 minutes. Kelly from work was kind enough to step in as the “Adventurer”. I really enjoy doing the themed shots like this and I really need to make it a point to try them more often.

Yes you are at the right blog! Recently my brother in-law asked me if i would do his engagement photos. I was very hesitant but I thought it would be good practice to get out of my comfort zone. I probably bit off more than I could chew. In the end it was good experience. I learned a lot which would help the next time (if there is ever a next time). All of it was shot natural light. If you make it to the end I’ve listed some tips that helped me.

From Darkness to the Light

August 16, 2010

This shot was taken a while back when I went out to the Linda Vista Hospital Shoot that Brooke Shaden arranged. The shot was actually the only planned shot I had in mind when I went there that day. I saw this morgue in pictures and I came up with this idea. I wanted to do it so it looked more surreal than creepy (although it might still be creepy to some).

Sono Luminus – w/preset

August 11, 2010

People always ask me about how I get my colors. Most the time I do not know (true story). To prove this I saved out the preset for you to use and perhaps look thru and tell me what I did.

Kelly – Washed-out

August 6, 2010

I get asked a lot how I get that light, washed-out look on some of my photos. It is a simple one step process (ok maybe 2 steps). It’s not always how easy or hard the technique is, but it is knowing when to apply them.

Where the Wild Things Smoke

A while back while shooting at Linda Vista Hospital I was able to hook up with with photographer Lauren Randolph. I had a random idea for a shot and oddly enough she was into it too. Her expressions totally made these shots.

Film Grain - photoshop tip

From time to time I like to add a little grain to my photos. Sometimes it’s just to gives it that slight film look…other times it may be to mask digital noise from shooting at a high iso. Here are quick steps to add a little grain to your diet.

Project 365

Better late than never right? I originally planned to launch this blog earlier in the year and with that launch I was going to recap my 365 from 2009. I was going to shelve the idea, but after thinking about it I decided to go head and post it. I figured people who weren’t familiar with my project can see some of my favorite images from the project.
