Caitlin Randolph - isayx3 PlainJoe Photography

Welcome to the Blog! It’s been a long time coming. The main focus of this blog will be for information and resources rather than my own photography. I will try to share as much as I can. I’m not claiming I know what I’m doing, but if you like what I do, then you may take away something from this blog.

In the past I have always listed strobist info. Now via this blog I will try to supply more detailed lighting information with the occasional setup shot.

Caitlin Randolph: Last Saturday I was able to be at location with several other flickr photographers. Later in the day I was able to connect with the Dynamic Duo aka the Randolph sisters. Most of you are probalby already familiar with photographer Lauren Randolph. What you may not know is she has a talented sister…Caitlin. Caitlin was gracious enough to allow me to use her as a model. They came complete with her own cool wardrobe! This shot has quickly become one of my favorite portraits I have taken.

The lighting setup is a 2 light setup. The light behind Caitlin was more for her hair rather than background seperation (It was below pointed up to her hair). In between was another tripod which we balanced a coke can with incense. Unfortunatly we were unable to get a whole lot of smoke. It is there, just very subtle. I hope you enjoy my lighting diagram. I’m sure those will get tweaked as I do more posts.

This may be your best portrait yet Ed. Hard to believe that you forgot the BD reflector because the lighting is just perfect. The location is way cool… the lighter green tones of the background really set off her hair and wardrobe. I love what the 120J did for her hair too. The green suitcase on the floor is a great detail. Wow. Freaking awesome work bro.

Ahem! Caitlin came with her own wardrobe because her awesome sister had a suitcase packed full of dresses! πŸ˜‰

Can’t wait to see more lighting set ups – especially if I’m in there! Love that you diagramed my shoot-in-progress as well. Didn’t even catch that at first. Bonus blog content!!! When I get that shot up I’ll have to link back to this page.

I am equally excited about the quality of this shot. Will definitely be using it for my portfolio. Love the bottom of the diagram too πŸ˜€ Gotta give credit to Lauren for finding the dress in a box in Grandma’s house – real vintage – but the shoes are all mine. πŸ˜€ Great shot. So excited about it.

Ed, this is fantastic work. I thoroughly enjoyed the lighting diagram, complete with happy stick people….genius! Everything rocks about this setup: the lighting…..perfect; the wardrobe…..completely finishes off the scene; and the color contrast between the Caitlin’s hair, the green sliding elevator door, walls and suitcase just all wrap it together in a great package. I can’t wait to see what else you have in store for the blog….thanks for sharing.

Ed, I am a big fan of your works and is a constant follower. My hobby is photography. Those strobe info and diagrams were very useful but what i admire most about you is your post processing skills. That is the area where i lack most in skills. If it’s not such a bother, could you also grace us with your instructions for post processing specially with Adobe Photoshop. Thank you Sir Ed and yes, such graceful work as usual!:)
